Underway from Beaufort at 8:30AM to arrive at Shelter Cove Marina well before the falling 8 foot tide's bottom. Progress was slowed by heavy fog. With 1/8 mile visibility, was able to maintain 11 knots speed. Passed several vessels safely with radar backup. When fog thickened to less than 75 foot visibility in Port Royal Sound, slowed to 7 knots until landfall when our visibility improved. Arrived in Shelter Cove at noon; later than planned, but still before absolute low tide.
On Saturday, we toured beautiful Hilton Head Island with our friends, Don Moon and Lou Shaw. On Sunday, we took Don's Sabre42 to Dafuskie Island, site of Pat Conroy's book "The River is Wide". There are several resorts on the island now. We rented a golfcart and spent a wonderfully sunny day touring the island. On Monday, with a favorable morning high tide, we'll cross into Georgia, ten ICW miles away.
