Two days ago, a quickly moving storm front with 60 knots of wind, 1/2 inch hail and heavy rain approached around noon. Luckily, after we battened down, it missed Key West giving us only 35 knots of wind and heavy rain. The photos show the storm's approach and beautiful evening sunset that followed.
The weather blew a dangerous Portugese Man O' War into the marina. Kathy thought it was a plastic water bottle with marine growth underneath. When she tried to remove it with our boathook it squirmed and we recognized it. It was small, with 3 1/2 foot-long tentacles. Adults have 20 foot tentacles and impart a paralyzing sting. Dangerous critters!
While bicycling yesterday, we passed a little Cuban grocery/eatery where they were barbecuing ribs on the sidewalk. They smelled wonderful and were juicy and flavorful as we ate them for lunch with black beans and rice. We were the only ones in the place speaking English. The filling meal was very reasonably priced. Another "slice" of life in Key West.
